Introduction to Dzogchen through preliminary practices

Registration Form

7th to 12th of April - Teachings by Khenpo Gelek Jinpa

Preliminary practices, if understood and applied properly, can help you to find your inner compass and dispel your confusion about what is good to think and do, in these turbulent times. And this is vital knowledge nowadays.

The teaching of Great Perfection, called Dzogchen in Tibetan, has the power to instill a view in the mind which leads to developing, through the practice of meditation, the qualities of inner freedom and peace.

Dzogchen is regarded as a very special and powerful teaching in Tibetan spiritual culture, a teaching with high potential to liberate the mind from its narrowness and negative patterns, the main causes of suffering in our lives. Apparently simple and accessible to everybody, those teachings nevertheless cannot affect the mind unless it is matured. That´s why so much emphasis is put traditionally on so called foundational or preliminary practices – called ngondro - which reduce wilderness of our mind and its tendency to negative emotions.

During the retreat …

called Introduction to Dzogchen through the preliminary practices Khenpo Gelek Jinpa, the head lama of Shenten Dargye Ling, will explain, in his engaging and energising way, what the preliminary practices are and how to understand them essentially, not just formally.

He will disclose deep functions and meaning of ngondro and focus on some of those practices specifically. He will address impermanence and preciousness of the human life and how to reflect on them in a fruitful, uplifting way; he will show how true compassion toward ourselves and others is natural, because it is based on understanding of the common human condition; he will guide the participants to understand well why trust and devotion in the ancient wisdom that countless generations of spiritual seekers have passed one to another is essential in order to connect to this heritage properly. He will speak about bodhicitta and the right motivation for spiritual development which stems from the aspiration to help others too. He will explain why well-being and happiness of ourselves and others cannot be separated.

The retreat is very suitable for

all those who would like to be introduced to Dzogchen which is the main teaching given at Shenten Dargye Ling in other retreats, and they want to prepare for it well.

It is also very recommended to all those who already know the preliminary practices but feel that they have not found a right door to them and do not experience yet positive changes in their mindset.

For those who want to attend the retreat by Khenpo Tenpa Yungdrung Rinpoche on the dzogchen teaching from Kusum Rangshar which follows after this one (with only one day break in between them), the retreat on the preliminaries presents an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the path of Dzogchen and its functional and necessary steps.

Preliminary or foundational practices have been loved by great lamas of many generations. No matter how advanced and revered they have been, many of them have performed them throughout their whole life, for their own great benefit and the benefit of all the sentient beings.
